Resumen
This work sought to investigate the correlation between LGBT+ professionals’ experiences of microaggressions at work and their self-esteem during the COVID-19 pandemic, and possible differences in the averages by age groups and organizational tenure. A total of 206 LGBT+ professionals participated and answered the LGBT+ Microaggression Experiences at Work Scale, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Descriptive analysis, Spearman correlation, and Mann-Whitney tests for independent samples were performed. Results indicated a weak and negative correlation between self-esteem and two dimensions of microaggressions: workplace values and cisnormative culture. Professionals aged 30 or older reported higher average levels of selfesteem and workplace values microaggressions. Professionals with more than one year of tenure had higher self-esteem averages; those with up to one year had higher averages across the three dimensions of microaggressions (workplace values, heteronormative assumptions, and cisnormative culture). This work is pioneering in the study of LGBT+ microaggressions in the workplace in Brazil, and its results contribute to advancing understanding of this population’s experiences.
