Abstract

Procrastination is a complex phenomenon that has been associated with certain personality traits and factors such as impulsivity, task aversion, stress, and self-regulation failures, among others. However, its relationship with the trait of sensory processing sensitivity has not yet been studied. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between pathological procrastination and sensory processing sensitivity. The Irrational Procrastination Scale (ips) and the Highly Sensitive Persons Scale (hsps) were administered to a sample of 337 adults (Mage = 24.32; SD = 6.76), the majority of whom were female (n = 235; 69.7 %), from the cities of Uruapan and Morelia in Michoacán, Mexico. Once the data were collected, an inferential analysis using Pearson’s r confirmed the existence of a positive correlation between pathological procrastination and sensory processing sensitivity (r = .367). These results may be useful for the development of programs or strategies to assist people who procrastinate and also exhibit high sensory processing sensitivity.
